About the author:

Letting my mistakes be your lessons.

About two years ago, I decided to take up baking. I decided to only make things I deemed “edible” by which I mean baked goods that when you zip up you jeans and realize they don’t fit as well as they used to and you think to yourself “What have I been eating?”  and you remember those hummingbird cupcakes or hazelnut and cherry biscotti that you smile at the recollection of how good they were and not frown at the fact that you’ve gained weight. Because my motto is: “If you’re going to gain weight it might as well be eating something you love rather than that gigantic Costco cookie or office donuts. “

I have no fancy training or fancy kitchen. Just a plain ol’ girl in a small apartment with an even smaller kitchen experimenting with delicious goodies.

So many of the recipes in this blog are things that I have made a few times and have all received rave reviews. And in the name of “field” research I have sampled various baked goods so I can assure you that many of the recipes are as good or better than items you can find anywhere else.  And in reference to the title I have a limited budget and am a fairly lazy person so I can tell you that most of the techniques I share with you are the easiest ways to do things. Oh, and I almost  killed myself melting chocolate so I can definitely tell what NOT to do!

So happy baking and I hope you enjoy these recipes as much as I do.

  • So…I’m looking at the Blogroll and I see “The Gastronomist”. You know, in Russian, “supermarket” is Гастроном. It’s pronounced [gah-stroh-NOHM]. Interesting huh?
